The Party seeks to unite all Kenyans, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or age, to work collectively for an alternative society free from the injustices of the present capitalist system. Our vision is a socialist society that guarantees freedom, human rights, and the holistic development of all individuals.
Historical Continuity
CPM-K continues the legacy of Kenya’s social and national liberation struggle, a movement that culminated in independence from British colonial rule in 1963. Central to this struggle is Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, the leader of the Land and Freedom Army, who was hanged by the British colonial regime on 18th February 1957—just six years before independence.
The Party correctly recognises Dedan Kimathi as a national hero and an immortal symbol of the National People’s Democratic Revolution. His leadership and sacrifice epitomise the unyielding spirit of Kenya’s fore bearers, who fought not only for the removal of colonial domination but also for the realisation of true independence rooted in justice, equity, and sovereignty.
CPM-K honours all the true patriots—those who perished and those who endured immense suffering—who gave their lives for Kenya’s freedom. However, the Party acknowledges that the Kenyan independence struggle remains incomplete. The second phase of this historic mission is to reclaim the legacy of our true heroes and achieve the People’s Democratic Revolution, which will pave the way for the urgent task of socialist construction.
Through this revolutionary continuity, CPM-K remains steadfast in its commitment to the liberation and progress of the Kenyan people.
Our Vision for Kenya
CPM-Kenya correctly believes that the establishment of a democratic and sovereign government, whose authority is derived from the majority of the people without exclusion, must remain a central demand of the Kenyan populace. As enshrined in the 2010 Constitution of Kenya, the people have expressed their rejection of the current political and economic system built on capitalist exploitation. Instead, they aspire to a system rooted in the values of human dignity, equity, social justice, inclusivity, equality, non-discrimination, protection of the marginalised, patriotism, national unity, power devolution, the rule of law, democracy, and public participation.
However, these aspirations can only be realised through the dismantling of the capitalist system and its replacement with socialism.
Our Mission
In response to this historic challenge, CPM-Kenya is leading the struggle to transition from the current capitalist-driven political, economic, social, cultural, and moral framework. These structures perpetuate exclusion, discrimination, oppression, and reaction. The Party is committed to building a socialist system that will establish a new Kenya, necessary for the liberation and progress of our country.
Our Ideology
CPM-K is both a vanguard party and a mass organisation, guided by the principles of Marxism-Leninism and its application to Kenya’s historical and material conditions. The Party operates as a people’s organisation, with its primary focus being the interests of the broadest masses of the Kenyan people under the leadership of proletariat
Membership
Membership in CPM-K is open to all Kenyans above the age of 18, including workers, peasants, farmers, intellectuals, artists, students, and professionals, who agree with and uphold the Party’s ideology and principles.
Together, under the banner of socialism, we strive to realise a Kenya where justice, equality, and true freedom prevail.
On Revisionism and Opportunism
The formation of the Communist Party Marxist – Kenya (CPM-K) was necessitated by a critical struggle against revisionism and opportunism that emerged within the Party’s leadership during the 2022 general elections. Guided by Marxist-Leninist principles, the Party had resolved to maintain its independence, rejecting alliances with bourgeois coalitions dominated by comprador interests. However, a reactionary clique led by Mwandawiro Mghanga and Benedict Wachira violated this line by collaborating with the Kenya Kwanza coalition, betraying the Party’s revolutionary mission.
This opportunistic manoeuvre exposed the destructive influence of revisionism, leading to a principled split. Through a rigorous rectification programme, the revolutionary majority rooted out these counter-revolutionary tendencies and re-established unity in thought and action. This process underscored the necessity of unwavering vigilance against opportunism and revisionism, reaffirming CPM-K’s commitment to the revolutionary path. In this historical struggle, CPM-K emerged as a reinvigorated vanguard, dedicated to achieving a People’s Democratic Revolution and constructing a socialist Kenya.
